Things I’m Geeking About Right Now, Pt. 2

geek 2

Good day to you and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! If you’re one of my American peeps, I hope you are up to your elbows in delicious food and/or spending time with family and/or watching football and/or doing whatever else makes you happy on this lovely day off. As for everybody else…Happy Thursday? Anyway, I had originally intended to share something that I thought would be hitting the interwebz today, but…well, it surprised us all, I think, by sharing itself a couple days early. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know what I’m talking about. But we’ll get to that in a minute.

Instead of my original plan of sharing that one, very important thing, I decided to branch out and share a whole bundle of things I’m geeking about right now. You may recall that I did one of these posts back in July. Obviously, many more geeky things have happened since then. Let’s talk about some of them.

Exhibit A: THE JURASSIC WORLD TRAILER (a.k.a. What I Was Originally Going to Post Today)

Every time I watch this I freak out. EVERY. TIME. This trailer has a delightful balance of nostalgia and new awesomeness. THE GATES. GIANT HYBRID DINO. THE MUSIC. CHRIS PRATT ON A MOTORCYCLE SURROUNDED BY RAPTORS. And, most importantly, SEA DINO EATS A DAMN SHARK!!!!! Actually, let me just share the text conversation I had with my sister upon learning about and watching this trailer:

Laura Jo: P.S. the new Jurassic Park trailer leaked 🙂

Cara: AHHHH I’MA LOOK IT UP!!!!!

*A thrilling 2 minutes and 40 seconds later*

Cara: OMG CAN YOU COME HOME THIS SUMMER SO WE CAN SEE THIS TOGETHER PLZ

Laura Jo: 🙂 Looks good, doesn’t it?

Cara: Yaaaassss. I flipped out when aquatic dino jumped out of the water like the best Sea World show ever.

Laura Jo: Yeah that was cool. More children in danger! #jurassicparktropes

Cara: It’s true. And raptors. RAPTORS.

Laura Jo: Raptors and motorcycles!

Cara: And on that motorcycle CHRIS PRATT.

Laura Jo: Can’t wait to watch the trailer again haha

So yeah. I think we’re both still hardcore geeking about about that. You guys, too?

Exhibit B: Flash vs. Arrow NEXT WEEK

As a loyal fan of both The Flash and Arrow, I feel it’s not only right that I geek out about next week’s crossover episodes, but it is, in fact, my duty to geek out. Though these shows both spring forth from the world of DC Comics and both air on The CW, they strike surprisingly different tones, so I’m very interested in seeing how the title characters do together. Will The Flash’s lighthearted fun mix well with Arrow’s darker intensity? I really hope so because the trailer looks awesome.

Exhibit C: Out of nowhere…SHERLOCK!!!

sherlock period pic

Um, hey, remember that awesome show Sherlock that aired its third season forever ago (earlier this year) and will air its Christmas special forever from now (next year) and have a sure-to-be epic fourth season to follow? Yeah. Everyone’s favorite consulting detective and his partner-in-solving-crimes took the internet by storm with a delightful pic in period costume. The top hat, the bowler, the ‘stache…I can’t even handle it. Will next year’s special somehow place Watson and Holmes back in their original era? I guess we’ll find out! For more geeky deets, just check out this article from The Guardian.

Exhibit D: Heimdall and Loki apparently have Avengers: Age of Ultron cameos!

Heimdall-Loki

I feel like this news didn’t make a huge splash across the web, so allow me to repeat: HEIMDALL AND LOKI WILL POP UP IN THE NEXT AVENGERS!!!! …At least probably. Idris Elba, cheeky thing, let slip that his solemn Asgardian gatekeeper, Heimdall, and Tom Hiddleston’s glorious god of mischief, Loki, were apparently on set at some point during the filming of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Granted, their appearances will probably be brief at best, but I have my fingers and toes crossed for an epic post-creds scene. For the full deets, see this Screen Crush article. I’m also crossing all digits for a Coulson cameo…but we’ll see. One step at a time.

Exhibit E: There will be a Doctor Who Christmas special, and it will feature Nick Frost…as Santa

Following the somewhat depressing season finale of Doctor Who, the Doctor was stirred from his mopey musings by a knock on the TARDIS door by none other than St. Nick–Nick Frost, that is. Honestly, I didn’t even recognize Frost underneath that bushy white beard at first, but I’m totally on board for the funnyman to play Santa Claus. I mean, gees, why not?! You can see a little preview for the special in the clip above. One more reason to look forward to Christmas!

Exhibit F: We’re getting a Star Wars trailer TOMORROW

star wars force awakens

While I still don’t know if I love Episode VII’s title (The Force Awakens…really? Wasn’t the Force already awake?), I am PSYCHED about the idea of getting a little glimpse into a whole new world of Star Wars. Originally, I was disappointed because I was under the impression that only a select few theaters would be airing the trailer. While this is, in fact, exactly the case, here’s the awesome news: iTunes is releasing the trailer, too!!! So EVERYONE can have access to the force!!! Fingers crossed it’s gonna be epic, y’all. J.J. Abrams can abandon the Star Trek franchise for nothing less…P.S. Did you see this post I did awhile back about the little rivalry between Star Wars and Batman v. Superman? Because it’s a beautiful thing.

Aaaaanyway, that’s all for now, folks! Have an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving! Just try not to think about that poor turkey you’re eating…

  1. Ah, such awesome things to look forward to, great post.

I am rewatching Sherlock (again). I freaking LOVE that show – it is just PERFECT. ❤

I'm gonna be having a Jurassic run again soon, I can see 🙂

    LOL those turkeys! xD

    • Rewatching Sherlock is one of the best decisions you could possibly make. 😀

YES Jurassic marathon. I 1,000% approve.

Yeah poor turkeys…actually, not really. That bird I ate was delicious. Bahaha.

      • It is just… amazing!!! Watched the new Star Wars trailer and I am beyond excited now. I have always had faith in Abrams working wonders with it, but I was so scared this would bomb, been very sceptical about it all – but I am officially excited. Sounds like Cumberbatch in the voice over, too 😛 I would die happy.

        Teehee, thought you would.

I am so glad it was so satisfying. 😉

  2. A spectacular post of the highest Geeky order! I love it. A ton to get excited about here, and I think I am finally warming up to the idea of a new Jurassic Park movie. That trailer is pretty bomb-diggity I have to admit, after watching several times over now. 😀 😀

Also, even the slightest cameo from Loki would be awesome to see in Ultron. Love that villain, absolutely L-O-V-E him.

    • You’re warming up to Jurassic World??? Yaaayyy!!! Not gonna lie, I have incredibly high hopes for it. We shall see. And yaaaassss on the Loki cameo! Loki and Coulson are the top two individuals I am dying to see pop up in Ultron. Now that Loki is pretty much confirmed, I am crossing my fingers and toes for Coulson…

      • I am indeed! Jurassic World I’ll be fine with if it works on its own. But I’m standing so far back behind my own defense systems because I just don’t want those memories tainted!!! (I’m one of the few who actually do enjoy the series all the way through to the third one, so I’m not sure really what Jurassic World might do to ruin anything since I know most people have a huge issue with JP3. 😉 )

        • It’s the worst in the series by a long shot. But it holds entertainment value for me. That new dino they brought in. . spiny-saurus or whatever it was. . . my new best friend! 😀

But yeah, it’s definitely not as good as the second and the second is nowhere close to being as good as JP

        • I will admit that the pterodactyl aviary is pretty epic. But the spinosaurus seemed like a feeble attempt to trump T-Rex. Ain’t nobody trumping T-Rex.

        • . . . .yeaaaahhh, I do have to concede that. It certainly popped up in the film (and esp given its timing) as a replica of the “big bad threat” from the original. I have to say that was forced. He was scary as poop though.

And yeah, i actually forgot about the pterodactyl park. But yeah that part was nuts too! Lol.

Will be very, very interesting to see how JW opens up. How it may or may not address events of the past. . . I think me and Rumsey were debating this over at Rumsey’s Film Related Musings recently as a matter of fact. 🙂

        • Oh I think they’ll definitely address the events of the past. I mean, how could they not?? Guess I need to go and see this great Jurassic debate between you and Mr. Rumsey!! 🙂

  3. Such excitement. I really hope the Doctor Who Christmas special is actually good this year… and I have to admit that I immediately recognised Nick Frost 😛
