An Important Update (and some mini reviews)

My face upon realizing how ridiculously long I have been gone.

Hi, guys. So, first of all, I would like to apologize profusely for disappearing for…let’s see…yikes–nearly three months. It was pretty uncool of me to drop off for so long without any warning. That said…I’m probably about to disappear again. And this time, it could be longer.

Duets: The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and The Intern

Alright, kids. Time to get back to these movie reviews! I’ve got these two and another pair that definitely need to be discussed. And so much coming out soon! This last month-and-a-half of the year is gonna be jam-packed with movie goodness.

Black Mass: Johnny Depp’s creepy comeback

Yikes. Is this really the first full review I’ve done since mid-July? I’ve been doing a lot of Duets lately, which are great, but it’s nice to take some time to really break down a movie every now and then. Since this one might be getting one or two Oscar nods (at least that’s my guess), it seems worthy of the full-review treatment.

It’s Friday once again! Huzzah! And I’ve got a brand-spankin’ new pair of films to talk about. The target audiences for these are way different from each other, but they kind of touch on some of the same themes, I guess (albeit very, very loosely), and they’re both actually pretty good for what they are. But we’ll get into that.

It’s finally FRIDAY!!! It’s funny how having Monday off makes the week seem so much longer…But we finally made it, and I finally have something new to share with you! Don’t get me wrong—I’ve got a couple more reblogs on the way this weekend, but I’ve been meaning to write about Oscar-nominated film The Imitation Game for quite a while now!

Duets: Unbroken and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Alright! Time to get down to writing about some of these stragglers from last year. I’ve been meaning to write a little something about these two for awhile now, but gees has it been hard to find the time! Now that the holidays are over, it’s high time for me to get to this Duet.

Birdman: or the (expected) brilliance of magical realism and metacinema

Is using terms like “metacinema” and “magical realism” a little pretentious? If so, I apologize. I just get excited when I can use all those fancy lit terms I learned in school! Because Birdman is definitely a film worthy of fancy lit terms. This is one that I honestly didn’t expect to see for awhile.

Duets: Big Hero 6 and Interstellar

Another Duet for you guys today—although I have to admit that I feel kind of guilty about making mini reviews out of the two of these because they’re both great. They deserve solos, not just a duet! So forgive me for cutting corners. There’s just too much stuff out right now…which is basically the best problem ever. 🙂 Anyway, let’s sing a duet!

Gone Girl: a clever mystery with a chilling end

I think it’s safe to say that this is the “it” movie right now. Everybody’s all abuzz about it. Of course, it seems like everybody’s been abuzz about Gone Girl since author Gillian Flynn released the book a little over two years ago. I remember several friends freaking out over the book and encouraging me to read it…which I promptly did not do.
