More Blogiversary Bash greatness comin’ atcha! Today we have yet another excellent guest: the lovely Miss Kim of Tranquil Dreams. I am quite certain you already follow her, but in case you don’t, change that ASAP! Kim does all kinds of great posts about movies and books and food and travel and fitness–really there’s something for everyone, so be sure to look around her site. Anyway, Kim came up with a very fun idea for this, and I’m sure you’re anxious to see what it is, so let’s turn it over to Kim!
I almost didn’t make it to this mega party but the most understanding Cara still let me join after being super behind in getting her this. I sat around thinking about Cara’s blogiversary and what favorite movie I love that I watch on repeat. Its not that I don’t have one. If you know me long enough, I’m not the hardest person to please unless its comedy, then that gets a bit tricky. Regardless, its hard to just choose one.
So, I sat around thinking about it in the middle of the night and realized that: why can’t I do it on all of them as long as I try to stick within a certain theme, right?
To me, no party is complete without song/music and dance. It just isn’t. Of course, if you were to get me to go out to dance, you’d probably have to get me massively drunk but that’s besides the point.
Here we are: I present you musical or musical-esque sort of movies that I can watch on repeat and my favorite songs from them. These are in no particular order but simply the order the songs appeared in my mind as I was putting this together 😉
1 &2) HAIRSPRAY – YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT/BIG BLONDE BEAUTIFUL
Hairspray is my go-to feel good movie. The only problem is not being able to stop watching it. I’ll replay it over and over again. I can’t imagine having anything without having some music has upbeat as this. Its just filled with so many fun songs and all those 60s dance moves looks so fun to do. I just couldn’t pick one.
3) THE SOUND OF MUSIC – MY FAVORITE THINGS
Its only been recent years that I learned that a lot of guys I know haven’t seen The Sound of Music. I really don’t understand why. Is it the music part? The Sound of Music gets a bit heavy at the end with the Nazis and whatnot but a good part of the beginning is very fun. When I’m having a shit day, I automatically start humming My Favorite Things. And when that loop starts, you can count on it staying in my head for the rest of the evening. But, if you’ve seen this, you know that there are a lot of great songs that are just adorable and fun all at the same time.
4) ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW – TIME WARP
My boyfriend always laughs in disbelief at how I love this movie so much. Maybe its just because its so different and c’mon, Tim Curry is pretty awesome. Maybe one of the best I’ve seen him in. Regardless, this one appeals to a certain group of people only but there are catchy tunes. The best one has to be Time Warp. Can you imagine starting a party with this one? I definitely can!
5) MARY POPPINS – JOLLY HOLIDAY
Other than The Sound of Music, everything here is fairly new discoveries (within the last 5 years or so). This list would not be complete without Mary Poppins and I mean, I could put all the songs in Mary Poppins and just finish up right there. Except maybe some of you haven’t seen it, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt. I just don’t know whats kept you from seeing it, that’s all. Tell you a little secret, I watched Mary Poppins both going and coming back from Hong Kong for my vacation. Why? Because who can resist a happy movie like that especially when I was hitting the final few hours stuck in a plane and struggling to find my sanity 😉
6) ENCHANTED – THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW
I’m noticing a whole lot of Disney here or just coming up. Disney is great at finding those catchy tunes. When I went to see Enchanted in theatres when it first came out, I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that I hoped to match up to Mary Poppins or that sort of thing. To say that it does would be untrue. Its definitely fun to watch and it was the first time I was charmed by Amy Adams but the best part of the movie has to go to the music that went with it. One of the most upbeat of them all is That How You Know where they just sing and dance through Central Park. Of course, if we wanted a mellow time, I’d have chosen So Close but doesn’t seem to match this blogiversary bash that’s going on 😉
7) PITCH PERFECT – RIFF-OFF
Another one totally up in the air for me and one of my newest addictions is Pitch Perfect. Seriously, I know all these songs by heart now. I watched Pitch Perfect 10 times in week after I saw it the first time. I tuck it away from my sight now because I feel like I have a ton of movies to get through so its better to give it a little break, but once in a while, I go on Youtube and search up the songs.
8) BURLESQUE – EXPRESS
Burlesque is really my appreciation for the vocal talent of Christina Aguilera than actually thinking this is a great movie. I watch it on repeat for the Burlesque style that appeals to me and that it has some nice songs. Plus, I like Cam Gigandet for some odd reason because its a cute guy. I find the most charming song in this goes to this one right here.
9) THE LION KING – HAKUNA MATATA
I don’t think Hakuna Matata needs a lot of explanation as to why its here. Lion King itself is pretty epic. “It means no worries for the rest of your days” Oops. I just couldn’t resist…
10) THE LITTLE MERMAID – UNDER THE SEA
I haven’t seen The Little Mermaid in quite a long time BUT this list is really for some awesome music and when it comes to Disney music, I can listen to Under the Sea over and over again. Sure, I don’t quite do it as often as the other ones on this list but its just so happy and so summer-y. Maybe its just because its about being in the water and reminds me of beaches.
There you go! 10 musically upbeat songs to celebrate Cara’s blogiversary bash. Nothing is quite like some good music and dancing to amp up the mood in a room and I hope I did exactly that for you as we celebrate this important event. A huge thanks to Cara for putting this together. I had a whole lot of fun doing this. Happy blogiversary to her and I look forward to many more years to come of Silver Screen Serenade 🙂
Thanks so much, Kim! You realize now all of these songs are going to be stuck in my head for days, right? Lol. More tomorrow, party peeps!

Great choices, Kim! I especially love The Sound Of Music & Rocky Horror. : )
GREAT post, Kim!!
I haven’t seen many of these because I don’t like musicals but The Sound of Music was a staple in little Eric’s household every single year at Christmas until I moved out when I was 21….
Thanks, E! 🙂
And you should think about re-establishing it into your current household 😛 You know, just a suggestion…
🙂 !!!!
Great idea Kim! I’m not a big musical fan but i do love The Lion King and all the songs in it 🙂
Thanks Mikey! 🙂
I had a REALLY hard time choosing which song to use for The Lion King. I almost chose another one. But then, my mind flipped through like a bunch of Disney animations..haha!
Great list, I love Hairspray, Enchanted, Pitch Perfect and The Little Mermaid so would definately have those songs playing.
Great list Kim! LOVE The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the Time Warp is so fun!
