Premiere Particulars: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

agents of shield

Here we go again, fellow Marvel nerds! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned to ABC last week for its season two premiere (and you can read about its season one premiere here). I have to say, this one was kind of on the brink for a while. About halfway into last season, the show seemed to be in a rut—not really raising the stakes or answering any questions or even going much of anywhere. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: Sleepy Hollow

sleepy hollow

Gees this is kind of surreal…A little over a year ago, Sleepy Hollow’s season one premiere was my very first write-up for Premiere Particulars. Now here I am reviewing its premiere all over again! Of all the new shows I watched last year, Fox’s Sleepy Hollow was definitely the one that grew on me most. My initial response to it was lukewarm, but by the end of the season I was already desperate for season two. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: Gotham

gotham 2

And so it begins—the first of an obnoxious amount of write-ups about premiere episodes. Seriously, you’ll just have to resign yourself to seeing at least a couple of these a week on my blog for the next month or so. But I’m sure glad this one was first on this list because I was extremely curious about it. Have you been curious, too? Well then let me share a few of the particulars of Fox’s new crime drama, Gotham. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: Outlander

outlander 1

Maybe it’s just because I have access to Starz, but it seems like everyone was in a tizzy about the premiere of this show. Of course, I guess when a fantasy/romance/historical fiction book series has been running for 20+ years and a network decides to make a TV show out of it, plenty of loyal fans will be paying attention. I decided to give the premiere a try because why not? Here are a few of the particulars. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: The Strain

the strain 1

Well whadda ya know—another TV show I’m super late to address! But I was bound and determined to eventually get around to this one because a) it looked super weird and creepy, and b) the response to it has been pretty positive. Sadly, I have not read the book series this is based on, but from what I understand the show actually follows the book pretty well, which is nice to hear. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: The Leftovers

Slowly but surely, I am getting around to addressing these TV premieres. This was one that I was quite curious about and not just because the premise is interesting. For those who don’t already know, The Leftovers is adapted from a novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta—a novel that I actually read for a class in college once. In fact, we were reading it while Perrotta was in negotiations for making this HBO series, and I know that because my professor was in touch with him. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: Tyrant

tyrant 1

Apologies, peeps—I’m a little behind on my TV watching. This one has already shown two episodes…whoops. Haha. Nonetheless, FX’s Tyrant was one I wanted to get around to checking out, as I mentioned in this write-up of summer TV. The premise sounded pretty interesting, and I’ve seen so many great things from FX that I thought this was sure to live up. So did it? Let’s talk about the particulars. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: True Blood

true blood 1

And so it begins—the final season of True Blood, a staple of HBO since 2008. It’s a little weird to think of the network without its bloody, sexy vampire drama, but let’s be real—it is high time for this show to end. In fact, I’ve been thinking that for the past three seasons. The first three seasons were fun and interesting and unique. The last three seasons…not so much. Continue reading

Premiere Particulars: Penny Dreadful

penny dreadful

So last night I decided to give Showtime’s Penny Dreadful a shot. Aside from the thumbs up it had received from my buddy Eric, the very little that I’d read about it, and a vibe that vaguely reminded me of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, I knew nothing about what I was getting myself into. Nonetheless, I held off watching my beloved Game of Thrones to give it a chance. Was it worth it? Well, let’s talk about the particulars. Continue reading
