Things I’m Geeking About Right Now: Post-Comic-Con Edition

Oh come on. You know you're a little sad you missed this.

Oh come on. You know you’re a little sad you missed this.

There has been an absolute FLOOD of movie and TV stuff following the Holy Days of Geek that we loyal disciples refer to as Comic-Con, so I thought this would be a superb time to revive my Things I’m Geeking About Right Now segment–which I haven’t done in quite some time, come to think of it. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1: a worthy follow-up to Catching Fire?

mockingjay1

Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous going into this film for a few reasons. First of all, now that I’ve read all of the books that the films are based on, I can confirm that Mockingjay is my least favorite of the trilogy, which seems to be the general consensus among most readers. I could go on a whole tangent about why it’s something of a letdown, but that would certainly require spoilers, and that’s not my thing. Continue reading

Song and Screen, Pt. 1

I typed in "dogs and guitars." This is one of the many wonderful things I found.

Happy Friday, you lovely readers, you! I hope that your day has been splendid thus far and that your weekend promises to be equally awesome. No new reviews today, but an idea for a new feature post popped into my head recently, and I thought I’d give it a whirl because why not? Well, if I’m being honest, it occurred to me that though I’ve chosen the name “Silver Screen Serenade” for this blog, I really don’t discuss music very much. Hopefully, this feature can fix that. X-Men: Days of Future Past: the best X-Men film in a decade

xmen days of future past

This is one I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. Yes, I know I probably said the same about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but this was the superhero film I was really waiting for because I do love me some X-Men. But after a very strong start with X-Men and an even stronger second outing with X2: X-Men United (which you can read my review of here on Zoë’s lovely blog), X-Men faltered big time with the atrocious X-Men: The Last Stand. Continue reading

Jennifer Lawrence plays Box of Lies

Okay seriously guys–this is the LAST Tonight Show clip I’m ever going to post…Nope. That’s a lie. A very bad, not even remotely believable lie. But seriously, I’m going to try to post more legit stuff this week. Expect a couple of posts on guest blogs, a brand-spanking new movie review, and the continuation of a certain series this week. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: a dazzling sequel

catching fire

I feel like I’m late to the party with this one. WordPress has simply exploded with Catching Fire reviews the last several days! And I’ve been paying close attention to those reviews.  Widely regarded as the best book of the Hunger Games Trilogy (I can’t comment on that since I’ve only read the first two), I had pretty hefty expectations for the Catching Fire film. Those expectations only grew upon seeing the many positive remarks critics and fellow bloggers had to share. Continue reading
