The Conjuring: everything horror should be

I don’t know about you guys, but The Conjuring was probably my favorite horror movie of 2013. Here’s my enthusiastic write-up from when I first saw it.

Silver Screen Serenade

Since this is my first horror film review, I’m going to take a minute to vent by saying that I hate a solid 50 to 75 percent of recent horror films out there. Horror has become synonymous with gore, and I absolutely cannot stand an abundance of grossness. Why would I want to pay for a movie that I can’t even watch because it’s so disgusting? If I’m dishing out money for a pricey movie ticket

Now You See Me: the clever crime of Ocean’s Eleven plus the magic of David Copperfield

Now You See Me may not be Oscat material, but I think it’s a pretty fun magic show. Here’s my review of it from way back when.

Silver Screen Serenade

Is it just me, or has this movie kind of flown under the radar? Surrounded by big, much-advertised summer films, Now You See Me seems to have gotten lost in the fray. But I distinctly remember getting excited about the trailer when I first saw it. With names like Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, and Mark Ruffalo

This Is the End: the lighter side of the apocalypse

It’s been almost two years since I wrote about this, but it’s remained one of my favorite comedies that I’ve reviewed. Anybody else love This Is the End?

Silver Screen Serenade

Even after surviving Y2K, the end of the Mayan calendar, and countless wild end-of-the-world theories, we’re all still fixated on the idea of the apocalypse. But who can blame us? It’s much more fun to imagine our world ending with a bang instead of a whimper, and Hollywood has supplied us with plenty of grand ideas for what’s going to finally do us in.

Man of Steel: Superman reboot less than super?

Reblog time begins! I’m kicking it off with my very first movie review ever. Basically, this is the film that gave birth to Silver Screen Serenade. For better or worse, that film is Man of Steel.

Silver Screen Serenade

When I heard that Superman was getting a reboot, I wasn’t exactly super enthused. To be fair, I’ve always been a Batman fan at heart, but I also had the 2006 attempt at reviving Superman on my mind. If I remember correctly, the attempt was less than successful—more of a sentimental tribute to the old movies than a try at anything new.

Taking a Break (Kind of)

I would be lying if I said this picture serves any other purpose than "I love Benedict Cumberbatch."

I would be lying if I said this picture serves any other purpose than “I love Benedict Cumberbatch.”

Hey, guys. Soooo here’s the deal–in case you haven’t noticed, my presence on WordPress lately has been wimpy at best. See, I’ve had the job I’m currently working for six months now, but I still haven’t really found a good balance between work and blogging, not to mention that whole “having a life” thing. Lol. Series Spotlight, Pt. 2

blink doctor who

Man, oh, man–how long has it been since I did one of these?! Way too long, actually. You see, I started Series Spotlight with this post way back when with the idea that every now and then I’d discuss some of the best episodes from various TV shows. However, I did one post and then kinda forgot about the whole thing. Continue reading
