Quotation Quintet: The Second Movement

Hi there, friends! Well, I kicked off this whole quote series thing with this post about a month ago, and I couldn’t resist returning to it. Because let’s face it–this is something I could talk about every day for the rest of my life and still not cover. The movie world is filled with epically quotable material. I shall endeavor to at the very least scratch the surface. 😉 That said, let’s get to it!

The Orphanage (El Orfanato)

Laura: Un, dos, tres, toca la pared!

Why It’s Awesome: Ever since I first watched The Orphanage (El Orfanato, in its native Spanish), the phrase “Un, does, tres, toca la pared” has haunted me. It translates to “One, two, three, knock on the wall,” and it’s actually a phrase used in a children’s game in this movie. At first, it’s used in a cute, sweet way. Then Laura decides to make the game terrifying by playing it with some ghosts. Once you’ve seen the movie, it’s a moment you’ll never forget–and a quote that will give you chills.

Inception

Eames: You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

inception quote

Why It’s Awesome: Oh, Eames. You sassy thing, you. I love Inception to death (hence why it was my choice in this month’s QOTM), but, it can get a little heavy at times. Enter Tom Hardy’s delightful Eames, a too-cool-for-school member of the dream-hacking team who is also damn good at providing some comic relief. His quote is actually kind of an inspiring one. But when it’s followed up by him dreaming up a freaking grenade launcher, it becomes less sweet and sincere and more hilarious. Nice work, Eames. This is why you’re so loved.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rocket Raccoon: [about Drax] His people are completely literal. Metaphors are gonna go over his head.

Drax the Destroyer: Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast. I would catch it.

guardians quote

Why It’s Awesome: Drax the Destroyer was a hilarious surprise the first time I saw Guardians of the Galaxy. Who knew that this guy would have some of the funniest lines in the movie? But just the way he says his lines, man. So grandly. So sincerely. It’s beautiful. And when Rocket explains why Drax is the way he is, Drax’s response is so perfect and so damn funny. I think I laugh every time I hear this quote.

Evil Dead II

Ash: [for no apparent reason] …Groovy.

Why It’s Awesome: Sometimes, all it takes to make a quote awesome is one severely outdated word and Bruce Campebell. When I first watched The Evil Dead, I liked it quite a bit, but I knew it wasn’t ever going to be one of my favorites. Then I saw Evil Dead II, and with one word, I understood why everyone loves poor, crazy Ash so very much. This moment is the most random and easily the most wonderful of the movie. Also, I copy and paste a lot of these quotes from IMDb. Can I point out how hilarious it is that they make a point to say “for no apparent reason?” Brilliant.

The Dark Knight

Lt. James Gordon: [about Batman] Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.

Why It’s Awesome: …Like, most of you guys know me well enough to know that it was only a matter of time before a Batman quote popped up on here. The Dark Knight is easily one of my favorite movies, and this final speech that Gordon gives is just pure perfection. It sums up everything about Batman’s role in this film in a few epic sentences. Melodramatic on paper, perhaps, but when Gary Oldman says it, it just works. Pair this little speech with shots of Batman fleeing the police, cape billowing in the wind, and you’ve got yourself an epic end to an epic movie.

So there’s another little round of quotes for you. Hope you enjoyed. Also, when I posted this last time, a few of you actually expressed interest in contributing. It hadn’t even occurred to me to make this a guest thing, but, heck, the more the merrier! Haha. If there are some movie/TV quotes that you’re itching to talk about, send them to caragale123@gmail.com with some pictures/gifs/clips to go along with them, and I shall make sure your post gets a place of honor here at Triple S. 🙂

Anyway, have a splendid day, and I’ll see you tomorrow with some more awesome April Foolery!

  1. GAH! Collection of fantastic quotes here! I am a huge fan of the Inception quote, and it IS inspiring! I think so, even though it is used with a sense of humour in the movie. I love these quotes, really. As for Evil Dead II? That movie was so freaking awesome, and “Groovy” remains one of those infinitely quotable things. Unfortunately, most people here haven’t seen it and think I have lost my marbles a few decades ago or something :/ Naturally some Batman ones are going to make it on here. ❤ They have to!

    • I thought you’d like that Inception one! Didn’t you pick that for Luke’s movie quote QOTM or something? I remember seeing it and being like, “I almost picked that, too!” Lol. Most people where you’re at haven’t seen Evil Dead II?? What nonsense is this?! Lol. Tell them to change that. FAST. Oh Batman was totally a given. I’m sure a Joker quote will pop up, too. 🙂
