You know what? It has been far, far too long since I have had a proper geek out. You see, it all started with this geek fest, which eventually led to this pile of geekiness, which shortly after became this explosion of geeky stuffs. What can I say? It’s a geek’s world–I just live in it. 😉 Anyway, let’s talk about some of the things that have making me geek lately, shall we?
Exhibit A: The Fantastic Four teaser
Does it shamelessly beg, borrow, and steal from Interstellar‘s teaser trailer? Well…yeah. Heh. But after seeing this teaser for the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie, my interest is nonetheless piqued. Clearly, this film is going for a vastly different tone from the first pair of films, which is probably a good idea since the original films practically drip cheese. A darker tone and a cast of fresh young faces (Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Toby Kebbell, namely) might be just what this franchise needs. We shall see. I’m very much hoping this one is worthy of its spot on my 25 Films of 2015 list…
Exhibit B: Emma Watson as Belle
Okay, so maybe Disney is getting a little crazy with its live-action adaptations lately (last year’s Maleficent, this year’s Cinderella, and now this), but guys…Emma Watson is gonna be Belle!!! As both a Harry Potter nerd and a big fan of the original Beauty and the Beast cartoon, I have no choice but to geek over this bit of news. Honestly, I think Watson is suited to this role pretty perfectly. Now we just have to find an equally awesome Beast. Surely Benedict Cumberbatch would make room in his schedule…right?
Exhibit C: Rumors of Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones
Suddenly Chris Pratt is the go-to guy for rebooting beloved franchises! Okay, okay–it hasn’t been confirmed. And if I’m being perfectly honest, I’m not totally sure how I feel about this yet. As much as I love Pratt’s goofy-yet-charming characters, I’m not so sure he’s suited to someone like Indy. But I’m definitely not writing him off. As you can see, he looks damn fine in the Indy get-up. Let’s just see how he does in Jurassic World.
Exhibit D: The X-Men: Apocalypse casting news
X-Men: Apocalypse is giving some old favorites fresh new faces! I’m pretty excited to see these characters at their beginnings–especially since one of them is Sansa freaking Stark! After seeing how kickass Sophie Turner’s Game of Thrones character got at the end of last season, I think she’ll be an excellent Jean Grey. Apocalypse has also pulled in Tye Sheridan (whom I know nothing about) to play Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp (yet another mystery to me) to play Ororo Munroe a.k.a. Storm. After the awesomeness of Days of Future Past, I have very high hopes for Apocalypse. Bringing in these very important X-Men could be just what the doctor order.
Exhibit E: The teaser for season 3 of Hannibal AND Hannibal casting news
Where my Fannibals at?! Seriously, I love this show. It’s not often I’ll purchase seasons of things, but both seasons of Hannibal have a place of honor on my shelf. It’s just so twisted and artistic and smart and surprising and…okay, I’ll stop. But this teaser trailer has me all kinds of excited for season three. Sadly, the premiere has been pushed back to summer, but I’m hoping that less competition will be good for the show. Seriously, how have more people not caught on to how great it is yet?! Maybe casting of True Blood‘s Rutina Wesley and The Hobbit‘s Richard Armitage as important Red Dragon characters (Reba McClane and Francis Dolarhyde) will reel some folks in. Fingers crossed!
Exhibit F: All these Marvel Netflix shows
Admittedly, I haven’t been paying attention to this stuff nearly as much as any self-respecting geek should, but when I heard that my favorite Doctor, David Tennant, was going to be a pivotal villain in the upcoming Jessica Jones series, I was all, “Oh? I’m listening…” There are five of these Marvel/Netflix collaborations on the way, the first of which being Daredevil. As you can see, it has a pretty cool motion poster. I’m kind of excited to see Daredevil get another chance after that very poorly received film from…12 years ago?! Has it really been that long?! Yikes. Anyway, A.K.A. Jessica Jones will premiere later this year, followed by Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders some time in the near future (though presumably not this year). Read more deets about all of these shows by clicking here. Marvel is certainly getting seriously about their TV shows! But since I have grown surprisingly fond of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and now Agent Carter, I can’t wait.
Exhibit G: The teaser for season 3 of Bates Motel
Oh, Norman. What are we gonna do with you, you delightfully creepy boy? Bates Motel is fast-approaching the premiere of its third season (March 9), and I am pretty pumped to see what happens next. Freddie Highmore has been absolute perfection as sweet yet severely disturbed Norman, and who could’ve ever predicted that Vera Farmiga would be so fantastic as his crazy, obsessive mother, Norma? This one is just a lot of fun. If you consider yourself a Psycho fan, I’d recommend it just for all the clever nods to the film. You might just recognize a nod to a certain scene in the teaser above…
Exhibit H: CBS is developing a Supergirl series
Heck yeah lady superheroes! I tell you what, Agent Carter has really got me thinking about how desperately we need solid superladies not just as supporting characters, but as leads. And DC is, unfortunately, way behind in this regard. Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman was a start, and I am quite fond of Caity Lotz’s Canary on Arrow, but…c’mon, DC. You can do better. CBS’s upcoming Supergirl show is a step in the right direction. She wouldn’t be the first DC lady I’d pick for a solo show (Team Batgirl), but from what I little I know about her, she seems interesting. I kind of wish they hadn’t cast some girl from Glee…but, hey, Grant Gustin was on Glee, and I love him to pieces as The Flash. But while I’m ranting about the importance of female characters…
Exhibit I: We’re gonna have lady Ghostbusters
Haters gonna hate, but you know what? I say BRING ON THE LADY GHOSTBUSTERS. I realize that there’s already a ton of negative feedback about this, and I can understand people being frustrated about this reboot simply because it’s an unnecessary reboot. I can also understand not liking some of the actresses chosen. But if you’re frustrated about this film simply because it is a reboot with women, I have one thing to say to you: Get the f%*# off of my blog. Sorry, but that’s how I feel. Because why shouldn’t we give lady Ghostbusters a try? Especially when the cast is comprised of talented, hilarious individuals–two of which Bill Murray himself named as part of his dream Ghostbusters cast a long time ago. Also, Ghostbusters co-star and co-writer Dan Aykroyd has said he’s “delighted” with the new cast (and you can read more about that here). If Murray and Aykroyd are cool with it, I see no reason to protest. Seriously, guys, it’s the 21st century. Embrace it.
…Have I officially scared away all of my male readers? Haha I hope not. Anyway, as you can see, plenty of epic things going on right now. What are you guys looking forward to? Have you been geeking over any of the above? Well, if you’ve been geeking about Resolutions, expect another lovely guest post tomorrow! 🙂
Disney’s not done with their live-action reboots. Apparently there’s a “Jungle Book” reboot in the works, one from Disney and another from Warner Bros. Gonna be a rumble in the jungle when the time comes.
I heard about that! But I know Benedict Cumberbatch is attached to one of them. Obviously, that will be my favorite. Bahaha.
Great post, my Geeky Strumpet!! I didn’t know about Daredevil – I need to keep up with that!
Smooches!
LOL. Geeky Strumpet!!! That could be the best thing I’ve ever been called ever. You should totally watch Daredevil, you licentious Giantess!!!
#xoxoxo
licentious????? That could be the greatest compliment anyone has ever given me!!!!
#SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
#licentious
#xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
I aim to please. 😀
#probielove
The first thing I thought of when I had about Pratt was your reaction haha. I don’t share your enthusiasm for the four they chose in Ghostbusters though. Where’s Tina Fey? Emma Watson will be fab as Belle. Which is your least favourite non pixar Disney film btw?
Bahaha that’s too funny! Well, like I said, I love Pratt, but I’m still not totally sure he’s best for the part. We’ll see. Aw I’m excited about the Ghostbusters! I admit I was a little surprised about the two SNL ladies they chose, but I really like Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, so I have high hopes. Hmm. I like Tina Fey, but I’m not so sure she’d be a great Ghostbuster actually. I’d kind of been hoping for Emma Stone. I agree–Emma Watson’s perfect for Belle. Least favorite Disney? Hmm. I don’t really actively dislike many of them so…I don’t know. Lol. It’s much easier to pick my favorites…
All this talk about the all-female Ghostbusters cast as overshadowed the fact that they cast a girl as Cyclops.
I seriously laughed an embarrassingly long time over this.
I am well up for girl Ghostbusters!
Oh HELL yes. 😀
Adding to the Disney one, I believe “Dumbo’s” getting a live action film and some news, some sort, came out today regarding the reboot of “Pete’s Dragon”.
DUMBO is getting a live-action film?? Wow. That ought to be…interesting. Lol. Pete’s Dragon might be more feasible, but gees. Disney is really recycling its own material right now, huh?
Definitely! I’m waiting for “The Little Mermaid” or, at this rate, “Tangled”, hell, maybe “Frozen” won’t have to wait for 20 to 30 years! Could they get away with doing “The Lion King”? Are “The Rescuers” films a feasible property to do too?
Oh gees. I’m hoping they won’t do all these these…or, well, any of them. Hahaha.
I’m worried Pratt might be stretching himself too thin by taking on Indiana Jones. That’d be his third major franchise (four, if you want to count Lego) to anchor. Has anyone ever taken on that level of ubiquity in the movies?!
Haha that is a very fair point! I love Pratt, but it seems more fair to give another actor a chance to shine in the role. And to, you know, give Pratt a chance to breathe. Lol.
Let’s just say Pratt is the better option that Bradley Cooper was. HOWEVER, it would be preferable if they just left the Indiana Jones films alone… like really…
Oh come off it 😦 I have been highly upset about the Rutina Wesley casting, and now to hear how important a character she is going to play? That breaks my heart. Aside from that crappy news, and that Pitt is not returning to play Verger, I am simply ridiculously excited for this season!
I am hoping for things to pick up in season 3 of Bates Motel. I must say that I really enjoyed the first season, but was not totally in love with the second
I do love the story and the cast though!
YES. Let’s get all pro women’s rights here and all, I am on board! 😛
Y’know, I might lose cool points for this, but…I actually think I’d prefer Cooper in the role. But after Jurassic World, I might chance my tune. I just need to see what Pratt can do in less of a goofball role first. I would be fine with them leaving Indiana Jones alone, but after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…well, a little redemption wouldn’t hurt. Hahaha.
You don’t like Rutina Wesley?! I hated what they did with her character on TB, but I actually like her! Maybe it’s just because she graduated from my university…lol. I think the upcoming season is gonna rock!
Things were, perhaps, a little slower in season two, but I was okay with that. I LOVE what they’ve done with Dylan’s story, though I would like to bring the focus back to Emma a bit. And I REALLY wanna see Norma and Sheriff Romero date already!! Lol. I’ll be perfectly happy if I never see Bradley again though. HATE her.
LADY GHOSTBUSTERS HIGH FIVE!!!
Hmmmm, I suppose we will have to wait and see…
Nope, I really don’t
Maybe I change my tune after season three of Hannibal… She did? That’s cool!
Bradley is a pain in my toe, like seriously. But I do love Dylan and the Sheriff 🙂
#HighFives
I’ll only watch Beauty and the Beast if Ron Perlman is the beast.
Fannibals sounds too much like Fanny-Balls which is a well used insult in Scotland. It translates as vagina-testicles.
And i think Chris Pratt would be the perfect Indiana Jones. I remember another charismatic actor who starred in a big fun space movie, and as an amazing archaeology professor. It can be done.
Mike! Hey, buddy! Haven’t seen you around here in ages! I was beginning to think you’d been taking–and, yes, I did consider calling Liam Neeson.
If Ron Perlman were the Beast this time around then that would be an uncomfortable age gap…
LOL. Alright good to know. Won’t be going back to Scotland and asking if there are in Fannibals in the vicinity.
See, I do think Pratt could be good, but the difference is just that he is soooo much goofier than Ford. Either he’d have to switch things up, or the character would have to be tweaked a little…but we’ll see.
Plenty to geek out about here! I have no issue with lady Ghostbusters, really don’t get what the issue is. It would have been shit if they’d got guys in to try and match up to the originals, so why not do something completely different.
And Emma Watson as Belle is perhaps the most perfect piece of casting in history!
THANK YOU. Chris, that’s exactly how I feel. A-freaking-men. If they’re going to reboot it, they might as well do something fresh. And yaaasss to Watson as Belle!!! Pretty much perfection. 🙂
Seeing as Pratt was basically Han Solo in Guardians of the Galaxy, his casting as Indy gets two thumbs up from me. And SOPHIE TURNER as JEAN GREY – OMG, this is the first I have heard of this and so much YES!
You hadn’t heard about Turner?! Heck yes!! I’m already convinced she’ll be a million times better than Famke Janssen.
The other day I found a brick that was a million times better than Famke Janssen.
LOLOLOLOLOL
Yay! Geeks unite! 🙂 Except…… I’m not sure about Emma Watson as Belle. And……… Okay, the Ghostbusters thing pisses me off. 😉 But because I don’t like those specific actresses. Or fucking with classics. But, hey – girls rule! 😉 Oh! Sansa freaking Stark! Which reminds me – I’M ALL CAUGHT UP ON GoT!!!!!!! 🙂
Oh man. I think Watson is perfect for Belle! Why don’t you like her for it?? I will say, though, that there are now rumors that Ryan Gosling is going to be the Beast, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.
Like I said, I can totally understand not being excited about Ghostbusters just because of the actresses or the fact that it’s another reboot–I’m just fed up with the assholes on the internet who hate it just because it’s a reboot with women. HELL YEAH GIRLS RULE. 🙂
I AM SO EXCITED YOU’RE CAUGHT UP ON GOT AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Great stuff!! I might have to break down and get Netflix so I can watch Daredevil. It looks like it’s going to be awesome! I actually just watched the Daredevil movie for the first time last week. I didn’t think it was as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It wasn’t up to par with the current Marvel movies, but then again, what is? But, I don’t think it deserves the hate that it got.
I’m curious about The Fantastic Four. They were one of my favorite comic books when I was younger. Much like Daredevil, the past movies weren’t horrible, but they weren’t hat great either. The trailer for this one seems kind of dark. I hope they make it more fun. They should have the same chemistry as the Avengers. Fighting among themselves, but then pulling it together, and beating the bad guy.
I am also looking forward to Supergirl. Marvel is doing well in the movies, but DC really rocks on TV! Arrow, The Flash, and Gotham are 3 of my favorite shows right now. Smallville was my favorite show during its run. Supergirl is getting season pass on my DVR as soon as it’s available.
Considering my web site is Return to the ’80s, my initial reaction to the new Ghostbusters movie was one of outrage. But, when I saw the cast I felt a little better. I think Kristen Wiig is overrated, but I love the rest of the cast. Too bad they didn’t have Tina Fey instead of Kristen Wiig. We’ll see how that goes. Too bad they couldn’t come up with something original with that cast instead of resorting to a cheap stunt money grab.
Honestly, I don’t remember a whole lot about Daredevil other than not caring one way or the other about it. Haha. But I’m excited that they’re trying out the series because Daredevil seems like a cool character. I just hate that so many people are doubting Batfleck because of the movie.
I think The Fantastic Four could be awesome! The previous movies were a little too cheesy for my taste, so I’m digging the new, darker tone in the trailer. You know–as long as it doesn’t take itself TOO seriously.
Yeah, I love that DC is becoming such a TV powerhouse! Supergirl and Teen Titans on the way, not to mention a spinoff from Arrow I heard about! I think it might involve Atom? We’ll see. I hope they all do well! If DC can’t win in the movie world, dammit, let’s give them TV! Lol.
Aww I love Kristen Wiig! I actually don’t know if Tina Fey would be quite right for Ghostbusters, though I do love her, too. I don’t see it as a cheap stunt at all, actually. If they’re going to reboot it, they might as well start with a clean slate and a cast that draws some attention. Sure, it could crash and burn, but I’m totally willing to give it a chance! 🙂
I totally agree with you about the Batfleck thing, I don’t know if you remember when the 1989 Batman was coming out. Everybody was hating on Michael Keaton so bad. It would have been worse if the internet was around then. And now, he is a lot of people’s favorite Batman!
Oh, what do you think about the Suicide Squad movie they’re making? That might be awesome. It seems like they have a really good cast for that.
As for Kristen Wiig, I think I just got sick of seeing her in every single skit on SNL. I did love the Target lady, and the freaky girl with the doll hands. And I didn’t care too much for Bridesmaids. If I lived in a bubble, I might have enjoyed it more, But, since everybody made it seem like it was the best movie to come out since The Godfather, I was disappointed. I still haven’t seen The Hangover yet, but I would probably feel the same way about that one. I think the Ghostbusters movie will be good if they do their own thing instead of just being female versions of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. I’m thinking (and hoping) they do it right. One thing that I hope they do bring over from the original movie – Annie Potts as Janine! That would be so awesome!
I don’t remember the Keaton hate in 1989 because I was born halfway into the year…hahaha. Wasn’t seeing many movies back then. 😉 But that’s interesting. I assumed that everyone loved Keaton!
I am SO excited about the Suicide Squad! Honestly, I’m more excited about that than Batman v. Superman! Lol. Did you see that Jared Leto cut his hair for it??
I’d be very surprised if they just tried to plug the lady Ghostbusters into the roles of the original guys. I think the writers would be smarter than that. Omg it’d be awesome if Annie Potts came back!! I really hope that happens now!!
Oh, you’re just a baby! I was in the Navy at the time that you were born. I joined in February of that year. After boot camp and training, I got stationed in Oakland. At the time I got there was around the time that Batman was released. It was the first movie I ever saw in the theater by myself.
I just looked at Jared Leto’s haircut. Awesome!! I don’t think they could have picked a better person to play The Joker.
I wonder if it’s too late to get Annie Potts in the new Ghostbusters. 😉
Oh wow! That’s a cool memory to have, man! Batman by yourself while stationed in Oakland during your time with the Navy…I have no movie-going experiences quite that interesting. Haha.
I really, really hope Leto lives up! I think he could be fantastic, but MAN is it gonna be hard to equal Ledger’s performance…
Here’s hoping it’s not! That would be so great!!
