April Fools 2014: The Sporadic Chronicles of a Beginner Blogger

zoe

Hiya, folks! I started off my April Fools series yesterday with a post of my own, but now it’s time to hear from an awesome guest blogger–Zoë of The Sporadic Chronicles of a Beginner Blogger! Zoë’s site is an awesome mix of movie, book, and television reviews, fun movie scenes, quotes, and tons more. I’m sure you follow her, but if you don’t, change that. Right now. Also, she’s currently accepting Top Ten lists, and you should totally send her one (because they’re a blast to write). Anyway, here’s Zoë’s lovely list!

Top 5 Lovable Television Idiots

So Cara was feeling the whole April Fools thing really early. I had no issues with it, especially seeing as she had such a grand idea, something I couldn’t wait to do. This also became a challenge for me, because I am not really a fan of idiots all round, but there are the exceptions that I truly do have a good time with. After thinking a lot about this, I decided to theme my list, too. My Top Five Lovable Television Idiots. Nobody said you had to be dumb to be an idiot, and I agree with that. Some on my list are really smart, but they are totally ridiculous, too!

Morgan Grimes (Chuck)

There was no way he was not going to miss the list. I absolutely love watching Chuck, and the very first time I watched season one all those years ago, Morgan did nothing but gross me out. He is just awful, but he cleans up eventually. That isn’t the important bit though. The important thing is how absolutely outrageous he is, how entertaining and devoted and funny and geeky (no, not the hot kind), and just so socially awkward. I am a big fan of his and find him to be a very integral character of the show, even if it is just to watch him sneaking around and just being a chop.

Honourable Chuck Mention: Lester Patel. Come on… you cannot deny that he is an idiot that provided endless laughs.

Tony DiNozzo (NCIS)

There will always be a place on my list for DiNozzo as a very lovable idiot. I love his constant film quoting and total obsession with them, and the way he is humorous and childish. There is his incessant need to be the best, but also his extreme loyalty. He is funny, witty, smart and just a little mad, too, but he rounds it off well and offers me with plenty of laughs at any given time.

Walter Bishop (Fringe)

Walter is foolish and incredibly intelligent, but his mind is not all sorted out and together, thus resulting in an exceptionally entertaining character that you keep close to you. Having pieces of his brain removed also made him superbly ditzy. His love for Daisy the cow and of red liquorice and LSD is just classic, and his insults are intellectual yet at the same time childlike in their delivery. One particular gem was “Well, we’re all victims of our own gene pool. Someone must have peed in yours.”

Josh Levison (Being Human US)

Josh cracks me up and is just extremely awkward, a situation which is not helped by the fact that he is overly private and secretive (I guess it is understandable when you are a werewolf), but reacts so insanely to situations and is such a worrier. There are so many scenes where I just cringe on his behalf, it is so terrible. He is clever and amusing though, so he is lovable, you cannot help but to enjoy him, flaws and all.

Earl Hickey (My Name Is Earl)

my name is earl

I loved this show. I used to watch it religiously. There was just a massive appeal to Earl, his terrible past deeds and his insistence to work through his karma list to make things right in the universe. Granted, there are so many characters to choose from in this show (Randy and Crab Man come to mind), but Earl was the start of it all. He did stupid things, he went out of his way to make up for stuff, sometimes succeeding, other times exacerbating the situation, but always getting points for trying.

Thanks so much, Zoë! A smashing start for the guest lists, if I do say so myself. 🙂 If you’d like to send a list, too, I’m still accepting them, but please send them ASAP! I already have several lined up and promises for a few more! Just send your write-up to cs227@evansville.edu whenever you can. No new lists tomorrow, but I will have a very special reblog coming your way. Stay tuned!

    • Great list, Zoe! : ) Um… I think. Lol. Okay – I don’t watch TV much. However… I did watch My Name Is Earl and LOVED it!! Woohoo!!!! Excellent choice. I also adore Randy. Hell, I love every idiot on that show! : ) Did you watch Raising Hope?

  1. love Dinozzo cause he reminds me so much of myself, (quoting movies whenever possible). The funny thing is that they only started the movie stuff in season 2 and he actually mentions in season 1 that he doesn’t watch movies. Nice continuity error 🙂

    Great list Zoe!

  2. So. Two April Fool’s lists with a total of ten characters from ten TV shows. Number of the characters with which I am familiar? 3.

    Or 30%.

    I think I’m officially failing.

  3. Rock solid list, Zoe! What a great feature Cara, I can’t wait to read more of these.

My Name is Earl is a show I’ve definitely been meaning to get into, I have seen one or two epi’s and they were hilarious. If I would add one it would be Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, but then again he might just be the biggest idiot of all time. . .not necessarily a ‘lovable’ T.V. idiot. lol.

    Maybe I’d include the entire cast of It’s Always Sunny. . . . . . . .
