See that picture above? THAT’S HOW MANY MOVIES I WATCHED LAST MONTH.
…No. That’s a lie. But I did watch a lot of freaking horror movies for Spook Series–79 of them, if I did my math correctly. But I was looking at my lists a while back and I thought it would be cool to do something I intended to do yesterday, but didn’t: create a master list. Like, I have all these different movies, but when it gets down to it, what are the ones you really need to watch?
Though it’s a day late and maybe a dollar short–wait, scratch the “dollar short” because I do this blog fo’ free–I’d like to shamelessly semi-recycle material by recommending 20 must-watch films from Spook Series. Because let’s be real, these films are worth a watch any time of the year. In simple, alphabetical order (I can’t rank them by preference–it’s like ranking my children), here are 20 of my personal favorites, each with a very to-the-point reason to watch.
#1: Alien
Because SIGOURNEY WEAVER IS DA BEST.
#2: Coraline
Because it’s SO PRETTEH and CREATIVE.
#3: Donnie Darko
Because BABY JAKE GYLLENHAAL.
#4: Evil Dead II
Because CHAINSAW HAND.
#5: The Exorcist
Because it’s SO DISTURBING BUT SO GOOD.
#6: Ghostbusters
Because BILL MURRAY.
#7: Hocus Pocus
Because it’s ’90S GOLD.
#8: Let the Right One In
Because it MAKES VAMPIRES SCARY AGAIN (SCREW YOU CULLENS).
#9: The Orphanage
Because TERRIFYING MASK.
#10: Pan’s Labyrinth
Because it MIGHT MAKE YOU CRY…IN A GOOD WAY.
#11: Paranormal Activity
Because after watching it I SLEPT WITH THE LIGHTS ON.
#12: Psycho
Because NORMAN BATES.
#13: The Ring
Because it SINGLEHANDEDLY MADE THE WORLD CONVERT TO DVDS (PROBABLY).
#14: Rosemary’s Baby
Because MIA FARROW.
#15: Shaun of the Dead
Because SIMON PEGG IS A GENIUS.
#16: The Shining
Because JACK NICHOLSON IS SCARY AS ALL GETOUT.
#17: The Silence of the Lambs
Because HANNIBAL LECTER.
#18: The Sixth Sense
Because there’s a HUGE AND BRILLIANT TWIST.
#19: Zombieland
Because TALLAHASSEE (AKA WOODY HARRELSON).
#20: 28 Days Later
Because CILLIAN MURPHY IS A NORMAL IRISH DUDE AND NOT CREEPY (MOSTLY).
So there you are! A little something I wanted to do while I’m pulling together NOOOOvember, which will be coming your way VERY soon (and if it interests you, you can still contribute, by the way). It was hard to pull together my favorite 20–and it still kind of hurts when I think about the many wonderful films I left out–but if nothing else you should definitely watch the above horrors before next Halloween. 🙂
Well done! Not my genre, but looks like you made some good choices!
Thanks! I tried at least. Haha. 🙂
Love most of these films. I have to watch The Exorcist again. Haven’t seen it in so long.
Oooh definitely watch that again! It’s so disturbing, but it’s also such a masterpiece.
I actually think that Orphanage mask is kind of funny-looking.
Then you are braver than me, sir. Freaks me the heck out…But having R.O.T.O.R. back on the job is probably much more terrifying.
He has worn a similar mask made out of human skin a few times.
Hahaha. Yes, I suppose The Orphanage would be child’s play next to that.
79?! Is that, um… A typo? Wow! 🙂
Yeah…To be fair, I did start in late August or early September or something, but it was still…work. Hahaha.
Reblogged this on Silver Screen Serenade and commented:
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!! How about one last little reblog from last year’s Spook Series? Here’s what I like to refer to as last year’s “Master List.”
LOL I loved your motivations here. All of them. I freaking LOVE Cillian Murphy. That guy is awesome. And Zombieland? It’s ALL about Tallahassee!
Bahaha! I remember wanting to make it as simple as possible, so I was like, “This’ll work!” And RIGHT? Cillian Murphy is awesome! I feel like I’ve barely seen him in anything lately, and I miss him! And Woody Harrelson was freaking BORN to play Tallahassee. He’s amazing.
I miss him too. We need to start begging Hollywood to put some actor back on the screen for us again!
Hell yeah he was! ❤
